DJ's name used in fake booking scam

wrong guy: DJ Clock
wrong guy: DJ Clock

DJ CLOCK's name was allegedly used to milk R17000 from an unsuspecting promoter.

He was not even in the country while revellers eagerly waited for him at Ga-Stan Butchery in Mathibela near Zebediela in Limpopo last Saturday.

The Pluto hit-maker was brought in to replace veteran DJ Fistaz Mixwell, who dropped the gig and paid back the promoter R15000.

The replacement was allegedly initiated by DJ The General De Kok, whose real name is Koketso Mothapo, who had promised to deliver DJ Clock, taking his R17000 fee.

Another top DJ said: "It is becoming a trend where people double book and fail to honour the commitments only to pay back later. The industry rule is that 50% deposit must be given to the artist seven days before the event."

Promoter Thabiso Makhubo said: "It is like I was fooled because Clock was booked somewhere out of the country. It all started with Fistaz. He was not cooperating well with us. He would not take our calls even after taking the money. He then came back to us on Thursday, he gave us back our money. The gig was on Saturday. It was just a gig cancelled despite all the advertising and marketing and stuff."

The event went ahead despite the two top musicians failing to pitch. Makhubo conceded he might have been sold a dummy by Mothapo.

"Thabiso knows what is happening. Thabiso said he is not your source so I will not say anything because I do not know who you spoke to, " said Mothapo.

DJ Fistaz said he did not get all his booking deposit from the organisers. "I charged them R30000 so they were supposed to pay me R15000. They paid R10000 but we had 14 working days [for them to pay the balance] by that time they were struggling to raise cash so we took another event."

DJ Clock's manager Edgar Dlamini said: "He got the Mozambique booking a month ago, it wouldn't make sense to double book him."
