Fan sends soapie actress dirty pics - Moagi speaks out on cyber bullying

Skeem Saam actress Makgofe Moagi has revealed that an obsessed fan has been sending her pictures of his penis on Facebook.

Moagi said she had decided to speak out against cyber bullying because it's a growing trend and claims unsuspecting victims every day.

Moagi, who plays the role of sassy and attractive Charity on the youth drama, said it all started with a request to follow her on Facebook and some friendly messages from a 20-year-old fan.

Two weeks after that, the fan started sending her photos of himself holding his private parts. This happened twice and he asked for her number so that he could send her more on Whatsapp and that's when Moagi decided to put a stop to it.

"I was shocked when those pictures dropped in my inbox," she said.

"I asked him why he was doing this. I felt insulted and disgusted, like someone had invaded my privacy. I wondered what could have made him think that I would appreciate something like that."

Although she doesn't see herself as a victim, Moagi said the emotional scars remain.

"I felt emotionally and physically violated, so I deleted the pictures and blocked him."

With the loopholes in the legal system, she felt discouraged to approach the police.

"I didn't go to the police because I thought it was time consuming. It was easier to just block him. Besides, the lines are blurred in law or maybe we lag behind with the times, maybe Icasa can advise, but cyber bullying is a reality and children are committing suicide because of these acts.

"You're the one going through trauma and the [perpetrators] get away with murder and others retreat into a cocoon.

"I'm curious of the state of mind of the young man. What happened to bring him here," she said.

Moagi said naming and shaming was the best way to nip it in the bud as she did on her Facebook page.

"It's important to know that these offenders are not in control. You need to take the power back."

Moagi said she wasn't intimidated by the episode and was still free to socialise.

"I'm cautious. I look for tell tale signs. The minute they ask for my number and it's not for business then I know."

Moagi is a former presenter of Motswako, the SABC2 talkshow and she was one of the suitcase models in game show Deal or No Deal. She has also starred in 90 Plein Street drama on SABC2.

With Skeem Saam becoming the Generations replacement in the prime time slot of 8pm on SABC1 it's poised to become one of the most watched programmes with its stars enjoying more attention than ever before.

Sowetan recently reported how Bongi Dube, daughter of late reggae legend Lucky Dube was boycotting social media after she was harassed by a Durban businessman who sent her his naked pictures and followed her around the city.

It was was only after police intervention that the stalker stopped.
