Ralf GUM and Monique Bingham launch new single

Popular DJ Ralf GUM and house vocalist Monique Bingham have once again teamed up on a new single 'The Pap' due to be launched next Thursday.

The two artists have a long history of making hits. Songs such as ‘Kissing Strangers’ and ‘Take Me To My Love’ continue to rock music fans all over SA.

On Thursday, 9 October 2014, Bingham will join Ralf Gum who is now based in SA for the launch of their new track together ‘The pap’ at Shanguma Garden Café.

“Lyrically The Pap has many metaphors but really it's a love letter to South Africa. Inspired by the advice of some SA friends regarding a move from NY to Jozi, I write as though I were instead contemplating a love affair,” songstress Bingham says.

“Africa is often mischaracterized in the West as wholly out of control and dangerous. But there were riots in central London. There are shootings in Chicago. Life and love are crazy everywhere. Sonically The Pap is one of the most unique songs we've ever made. And that has been our goal for the last 6 years, to craft truly distinct, truly unique songs,” she adds.

The song is featured on GUM’s new album In My City in which he also collaborates with SA great Hugh Masekela.

“I always look for challenges in my career,” explains Ralf, “hence I try to work with vocalist and musicians, which I consider being top of their game and being such a challenge,” says the DJ.

A self-confessed perfectionist, Ralf is thrilled with the outcome of two songs he managed to score with legendary Jazz artist Hugh Masekela as a guest on.

“Sharing the studio for a creative session with Bra Hugh was a lot of pressure, as he only had one free afternoon to do it all. It is through such challenges that I seek growth as an artist and musician. I worked for about 1 and half years on the album and definitely can say that I learned a lot of new things during the process,” he says.

The album also makes a point of bringing the new and next generation of talent to the fore: South African actress KB makes a welcome return to the house music terrain on ‘My Angel’, while previous collaborators Parisian Jocelyn Mathieu (Masters at Work) and Kafele of the 2010 uber-hit ‘Complicated’ re-emerge here too.

Fans will also get to see the duo in action at the Rhythm festival to be held at the Bloemfontein show grounds on the 10th of October 2014.

The festival line-up includes DJs Black Coffee, Christos, Vinny da Vinci, Tira, Culoe De Song and Shimza amongst others.
