Jozi July takes on its Durban competitor

Jozi will be hosting its very own Joburg July in direct competition with the high status event that is hosted annually, the Durban July.

The Joburg July theme is the same as the Vodacom Durban July, ‘Posh’.

Event organizer and spokeswoman, Lucelle Chetty says they felt the need to allow Jozi to experience the Durban July since many struggle to travel far for the annual occasion.

“Basically there are a lot of people who don’t go down to Durban for the July because there are no flights or accommodation, so yearly a lot of people miss the event because of those reasons.

“We are giving them a chance to enjoy the horse racing event, same style just in a different location,” she says.

The Joburg July will be hosted on 6 July, the very same day as the one in Durban. Turffontein Race Course is where it's at.

The event is set to entertain with horse-racing and plenty of luxurious food to taste so those that are left behind in Johannesburg on the weekend can enjoy a duplicate version of the esteemed event.

However, unlike the Durban July that is known to be overflowing with celebrities, this event has not confirmed the who’s who that will be attending.

Executive Editor of Hello Johannesburg Magazine, Justyn Spinner says, “we have lots of celebrities on our list that we hope will be coming, we just can’t confirm as yet because it is slightly difficult as a lot of the celebrities head to the Durban July.”

“We have a split-into-two set up, a classic area which cost R200 per person just for entry and they can buy their own food and drinks. The VIP area is sponsored by Provocative Vodka and it caters a full menu of food and drinks just for R1200.”

Soul Candi's  DJ Soul Sisterand Beat Amy will be the only entertainment DJs for the Jozi July.

  • Does it have what it takes to match up to the Durban July?
  • It will be an interesting weekend for Durban and Joburg.
