M.I.A. has been banned from taking her four-year-old son Ikhyd out of Brooklyn after her former fiancé Benjamin Bronfman obtained a restraining order.

The British rapper has been hit with a restraining order after her billionaire ex-fiancé Benjamin Bronfman took legal action to prevent her from taking their four-year-old little boy Ikhyd out of New York City and to London, where the musician grew up.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "M.I.A has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes to school there.

"Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining order preventing her from taking their son to the UK against his wishes."

Kings County Court granted the order on Wednesday (13.03.13) and M.I.A. - whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam - was served the legal paperwork last night.

The 'Bad Girls' singer later launched into a twitter rant which has since been deleted.

The tweets included: "BEN you can't take my son away from me 'The mother'. Just because you have money doesn't mean you have the right.

"WOW. THE BRONFMANS WANT TO TAKE MY CHILD AWAY FROM ME. WHAT KIND OF S**T IS THAT? THEY NEVER SEE HIM

"Every child needs the MOTHER, I GREW UP WITHOUT A DAD. If grew up without my mother I wouldn't be here. (sic)"

The 37-year-old singer also retweeted a number of messages of support from her followers, including: "The mother is way more important for a child than the father imo. He should think about that. I wish u the best. X"
