Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse (60) passes his Matric!
Music great is now planning to go to university next year
Congratulations are in order for musician Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse, whose drive to overcome a lack of education is impressively on track.
Mabuse signed up at Peter Lengene Adult Basic Education Training School at Thaba-Jabula Secondary School in Klipspruit, Soweto, to study for his Matric certificate.
This is the first step towards his ultimate education goal - a masters degree in anthropology.
And he's just announced on Twitter, "The news is out. I PASSED MY #MATRIC. AM SO HAPPY... Going to university next year".
Mabuse dropped out of school at Grade 11 in 1969 to pursue his music career as a member of the then popular Afro-funk group Harari. He told Sowetan previously that hitting the limelight as a musician made him to lose focus on his studies. However, despite his achievements as a musician, Mabuse always felt incomplete without education.

Sipho doing this has more of a positive impact than if he were to travel around the country making speeches about the importance of education. Indeed actions speak louder than words. Bravo!Report Abuse

WOW...this is GREAT news!!! congratulation NTATE Mabuse.YOU OFFICIALLY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL THE YOUTH TO GO SCHOOL TO GET EDUCATED. You have been THERE, DONE THAT AND EVEN GOTTA A T-SHIRT(and a Certificate).
To other politicians and celebrities who have not finished school: YOU DO NOT have the right to tell the youth to go school before YOU yourself have been there. This includes our "village smooth talker" from iNkandla. First go to school, get educated and THEN you may you may talk about importance of education. No more cheap useless talks. Live life by REAL and Positive actions!!

Age is in your head and failure is in your head. In life you will find the things you look for and not the things you do not look for. At age 60 Sipho is still looking for the things that make society great and I congratulate him and wish him well. An example to the next generation.Report Abuse
