SA celebs out to do their bit for Mandela Day

AS SOUTH Africans gear up to give 67 minutes of their time to performing charitable deeds in the spirit of Mandela Day today, celebrities are temporarily taking a break from entertaining and also using their time to do good.

In Free State, veteran kwaito artist Arthur Mafokate, who doubles as record company 999 Music boss, says he - together with his artists including singer and dancer Chommee - will join premier Ace Magashule and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to donate gifts to the people of the province.

Mafokate added: "I will also be with the SABC1 soapieGenerations crew to brighten up the lives of the people of Kroonstad during which we will also paint several schools."

In Gauteng, Afro-soul sensation Zahara will join millions of school children who will simultaneously sing the happy birthday song.

Former Miss SA Bokang Montjane will "spend quality time" with the Nashua Children's Foundation.

"We will visit different orphanages and will throw parties for children and also give them food."

Performer and music producer DJ Cleo will be at the Ngwale Home-Based Care Centre in Zone 9 Meadowlands, Soweto.

Showbiz bad boy Prosper Mkwaiwa, will be "helping to build houses for the poor in Sokhulumi village in Bronkhorstspruit".

In KwaZulu-Natal, musician Stoan of Bongo Maffin popularity - real name Serai Seate - will be in Durban at Northlands Primary School together with a motor manufacturing company's staff and English football club Manchester United's players for motivational chats and soccer coaching tips.
