SA's best-dressed men

"Avoid wearing too much 'bling'. Contrary to popular belief, it actually makes you look cheap"

Cape Town- born-and-bred actor Tyrone Keogh, best known as Jack van Reenen from the M-Net series The Wild, took top honours in GQ South Africa’s Best Dressed Men of the Year competition.

Now in its eighth year, the competition pits fifty of the most sartorially astute men in the country against each other to see who comes out best in the wash. In the categories of arts, business, fashion, media and sport, the be- suited and well groomed were narrowed down to ten, from which the top three were selected.

Keogh, who says his style is all about being confident in what he wears, beat gold medallist Cameron van der Burgh, who came in at number seven.

Keogh’s closest rivals were stylist and designer Khaya Sibiya and musician Chad Saaiman, who came second and third respectively.

Saaiman’s sage words of dressing wisdom were: “Avoid wearing too much ‘bling’. Contrary to popular belief, it actually makes you look cheap”.

The winner credits James Bond for his polished look: “I love the styling of Daniel Craig as James Bond,” he said. “Clean-cut and sophisticated is how I like to do things.”

In the top fifty were snappy dressers as diverse as rugby player Chilliboy Ralepelle and musician Zakes Bantwini, who came in at position number eight. Bantwini calls Ghanaian-born British designer Ozwald Boateng his style-icon.
