Ivor Cleary aka DJ Mlungu, the 22-year-old originally from Nelspruit in Mpumalanga who now resides in Johannesburg, is a white boy with a black soul.

He has been playing throughout South Africa. He has been learning to compose and produce house and urban tracks and learning to perfect the craft since he was 15.

DJ Mlungu has been inspired by DJ Clock and DJ Tira.

He has been featured on numerous hit music videos such as DJ Clock's Ngomso and Shisaboy's Touch the Floor.

His friends listened to hip-hop, rock and other genres but DJ Mlungu chose to follow house music.

"House was so different from the music my friends were listening to, so when I heard it, I just fell in love with the sound and the beat."

DJ Mlungu says what makes him stand out from other DJs is that he is white and plays for black crowds.

Apart from music, DJ Mlungu is a third-year financial management student at the University of Johannesburg. DJ Mlungu enjoys his academic activities and hopes to graduate to make his parents proud.

"I also love travelling and spending time with my family and friends," he says.

Summer is the busiest time for DJs, hence DJ Mlungu will be having gigs in Swaziland, Mozambique and around South Africa.

He is also working on his debut album to be released next year.

"There is no set date yet as I don't believe in putting pressure on creativity."

DJ Mlungu has featured Shisaboy in Eloyi, a hit song played on different radio stations.

"I sent Shisaboy a clip and the next day we recorded the vocals."
