Legend's one-night stand

NEO-SOUL singer and pianist John Legend is set to return to South Africa, this time for a one-night only appearance.

The nine-time Grammy Award-winning superstar will perform at the Sandton Convention Centre on August 10.

Legend will have his star turn supported by the likes of MetroFM DJ and Idols judge Unathi Msengana and widely successful soul-funk and house group Mi Casa.

Legend will serenade fans in the presence of a 23-piece band. He will tickle his fans' ears with material taken from his current album and he will throw in a request from the gallery.

According to organisers Trademark Entertainment's Chris de Agrella the night will be a celebration of women.

He said: "August is a symbolic month in South Africa, it represents the embodiment of a steadfast ideology that meant life or death. In recognising the day that has liberated women, we couldn't have done it any way but through the fibre of music."

De Agrella said they had been in discussions that resulted in Legend heading to South Africa to perform alongside the country's finest talent.

De Agrella said: "The concept is an experience that is up close and personal."

Msengana said she was honoured to be working with Legend for the second time.

"My fans will see a performance they have never seen before," she told Sowetan.

Minenhle Dlamini will add another feather to her cap as she's billed to MC the show.

Dlamini gushed: "I am very excited about this. This shows people have faith in me and in my work."

Another top overseas act due to perform in SA is R&B singer Anthony Hamilton.
