THEY have a collective vision coupled with consistency and some of them are already reaping the fruits of the their perseverance. They call themselves Artistic Intelligence (AI).

Seven years ago, making a living out of dance was the last thing on their minds, but today, three of their members - Quaid "Flip" Jones, Paul Nqambule and Tumi Tladi are choreographers.

They have a strong grounding in hip-hop, but they're not strictly bound to it. They have elements of b-boying, popping, locking, dancehall and even salsa styles in their repertoire.

Last year they were crowned the champions of Red Bull Beat Battle 2011. This year they hope to do even better.

Nqambule, the most vocal in the group , said that when they started, there were 13 people in the group , but some of them dropped out and that did not do the crew any good.

"We had to make a conscious decision on how we wanted to run the crew, Nqambule said.

"We could not have people who came for rehearsals only when it suited them. We meant business because we are running this group as a business. We are now only five, but we share the same vision."

"We are now performing at corporate performances. We have performed for Eskom and Standard Bank among other businesses," added Nqambule.

In many ways, watching Artistic Intelligence in action, makes the stage and the business world seem small, indeed.

This dance crew have high ambitions and are working hard to succeed.
