Earth has a hard time with earthquakes

EVERY year more than one million earthquakes shake the earth, but not all are powerful enough to cause damage.

The largest earthquake ever recorded occurred on May 22 1960 in Chile.

It was the largest earthquake, but not the most deadly.

This dubious honour is accorded to the deadly earthquake that struck Shanxi, China, in 1556 and killed about 860000 people.
