Contestants try their luck at Idols

ASPIRING musicians came in their numbers on Saturday to try their luck at Idols.

The latest Idols auditions took place at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Kliptown, Soweto.

The competition began earlier this month and auditions have since been held in Durban, Sandton, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Last year's Idols winner, Dave van Vuuren, is doing well in the music industry.

The contestants stood in long queues and braved hot and humid weather as they waited for their turn to impress the judges.

The auditions began with Mzansi Youth Choir singing Shosholoza .

Vocalist Kgomotso Tladi of Benoni could not believe that she had failed to impress the judges.

"I am very disappointed. I think it went well and I cannot believe that the few mistakes I made cost me a spot in the finals," the 23-year-old said.

A tense Nobantu Tshoba of Springs was among the contestants and admitted she "was very nervous."

Moses Masemola of GaMasemola in Limpopo said he started singing four years ago and believed Idols was the right platform to launch his budding career.

"I am excited to have passed the first phase of the competition," Masemola said.
