Intersexions a hot favourite for Saftas

DRAMA series Intersexions has dominated the nomination list of the 6th annual South African Film and Television Awards.

Announced last week, Intersexions, which has a very fascinating storyline, got 23 nominations. It is based on how on the HIV-Aids infection chain in society.

Intersexions is followed closely by Sokhulu and Partners that received 10 nominations. Other drama series that got more nominations include Fallen and Zone 14 .

In the soapie world, there is a strong competition between e.tv and SABC. Scandal and Rhythm City are leading the soapie nomination list with seven nominations each.

The two soapies by the free-to-air television channel are followed closely by newM-Net soapie, The Wild, with six nominations, Isidingo four nominations and Generations two.

The Saftas are industry awards which aims to honour, celebrate and promote the creativity, quality and excellence of South African film and television talent.

Saftas project manager Azania Muendane says: "We are once again very excited to organise the Saftas, as well as witnessing the growth the awards continue to demonstrate every year. This year we received a record number of 238 entries."

The public will get the opportunity to vote for their favourite soapie in the best television soapie category.

Overall judging chairman Jackie Motsepe said she was very happy with the commitment that has been shown by all parties involved with the Saftas.

"Everyone involved is going the extra mile in doing their part to ensure the awards are successful and that is encouraging," Motsepe said.

The awards ceremony will take place on March 9 and 10 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, competing with American singer Usher who is performing at the Orlando Stadium on March 10.
