AS IF performing with an orchestra last year was not enough, Black Coffee is collaborating with two jazz musicians.

Born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, the house DJ says featuring pianist Ribatone and trumpeter Mzamo Bhengu at his live performances will be another way to take house music to another level.

Maphumulo pointed out that he has featured various musicians on his recordings. However, he has not used jazz musicians in a live performance.

"If you remember my past albums, I have worked with various musicians like Hugh Masekela, Siphokazi, Victor Ntoni and many others. However, I am translating that to a live performance. It is a different thing altogether," he said.

He said he had been able to explore the sound because he studied music at the Tshwane University of Technology.

"I am able to mix any sound to my music because I understand it. Studying music has given me an edge over other deejays. When I'm given a platform to explore I always do it."

He and RJ Benjamin will perform at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg on Sunday.
