THE SABC has revealed its plans for the coverage of the ANC's centenary celebrations in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
And as a precursor to the event, SABC2 is currently running a seven-part documentary, Have you heard from Johannesburg. The documentary is being flighted in the build-up to the ANC centenary celebrations that will be beamed live.
The documentary series is running on the channel until Friday at 7.30pm.
Have you heard from Johannesburg throws light on the global citizens' movement that took on South Africa's apartheid regime.
It reveals how every day people in South Africa and their allies around the globe helped challenge and end one of the biggest injustices the world has ever known.
It is an untold story of one of the most fascinating events of the last century. It captures a time full of violence, heroism and struggles, with real-life heroes and real-life villains. It's a story that travels all over the world, from Africa to Australia, from Sweden to teh US. It's a story of change.
The series is made up of seven stories from around the world, including South Africa, and plays an important role in opening South Africans' eyes.
The channel will also have live coverage of the centenary celebrations on Sunday, and the broadcast will start at 8am until 10am with a church service, and then from 3pm until 6pm will be the main event.
The broadcaster said: "This will necessitate a few schedule changes due to the flighting of these documentaries.
"Popular prime time shows 50/50, Ersfsondes, Pasella, America's Got Talent, Noot vir Noot and Gospel Classics will be affected by this.
"As the country's public service broadcaster, we will continue supporting events of national importance and the ANC centenary celebrations is no different.
"This is a milestone for the organisation and we are excited as the SABC that we will be beaming these celebrations right into our loyal viewers' homes.
"The documentary series travels all over the world and shows how Struggle icons fought for the democracy that all South Africans enjoy today.
SABC's acting group chief executive Hlaudi Motsoeneng said: "I would like to encourage the viewers to watch this documentary as it is interesting, gripping and mind-blowing, and not forgetting to watch both our news broadcasts and the concert."
The concert will be a marathon two-hour event featuring some of Mzansi's finest artists, musicians and performers.
Some of the big-name acts expected to grace the historic occasion include Zahara, who will share the stage with the likes of the Soweto Gospel Choir, Simphiwe Dana, AKA, Judith Sephuma, Liquideep, Jonas Gwangwa, Dorothy Masuka, Caiphus Semenya, Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela and Ray Phiri.
