Dave van Vuuren steals the show

"This is your competition to lose," said Idols judge Unathi Msengana

DAVE van Vuuren paced himself well to become the front-runner with a scintillating performance in Idols Season 7 Top 10 at the Spectacular Radio Chart Toppers recorded at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairlands, Johannesburg, on Friday night.

He outpaced the other Idols wannabes with a rendition of Sex on Fire by Kings Of Leon, earning himself a standing ovation from the 3000-strong audience and continuous clapping from the judges alike.

"This is your competition to lose," said Idols judge Unathi Msengana.

Equal to the task was funky Capetonian Kelly Fortuin, singing Will Young's Leave Right Now - getting positive feedback from the judges, including celebrity guest judge Zion from South Africa's acclaimed house duo Liquideep.

"I choked just before I could sing my first note but then recovered quickly," she commented after the show.

Phaksy Mngomezu did Nickelbacks How You Remind Me, while Crushanda Forbess My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson and Dené Vorster, with Someone Like You by Adele, did extremely well to remain in the competition.

It took the top 10 competitors months to get to this stage, during which they survived a series of emotional roller-coaster rides.

But yesterday they finally got to perform for South Africa's votes in their first Idols Spectacular.
