Play explores prostitute's toughest decisions

THE hot issue of prostitution will once again take centre stage as Money Maker, a theatrical thriller that set tongues wagging when it was first performed at the Windybrow Theatre about two years ago, hits the road once more.

This time round the play, which was written and directed by Julian Seleke-Mokoto, will run at Mmabana in Mahikeng from November 24 to November 26, at the State Theatre for Pretoria's Mzansi Fela Festival from December 2 to December 4 and Pacofs in Bloemfontein from December 7 to December 10.

The production is a powerful portrayal of not only the life of a prostitute, but also the underlying forces that drive women to sell their bodies to men just to be able to feed their families.

Money Maker is a gripping story looking at the realities of the socio-economic consequences of migration.

This production takes you through the world of sex workers and what they go through in everyday life.

It explores the story of a mother who left rural Mpumalanga to look for greener pastures in the city of gold, Johannesburg.

She finds neither the easiest nor the worst of conditions by finally settling for prostitution, where she survives by renting the space for the young ones. It's a difficult decision, but easy to put into practice.

This is a story told with a lot of skill and sensitivity.
