HARD-WORKING DJs at the Sekgosese Community Radio Station outside Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo were honoured for their efforts, which helped boost the station's listenership.

The ceremony was held at the station in Soetfontein in Sekgosese, west of Modjadjis-kloof, at the weekend.

The DJs received awards in 12 different categories and the results were drawn from the listeners' choice.

The SMS voting process had been going on for about two months, with listeners being given an opportunity to vote for their favourite presenter.

Mahlatse Sekepe got the award as best news reader or journalist, Refilwe Macheru as best education presenter and Thomas Ramabokela as best sport presenter. Rabothata got the award as the best current affairs presenter, Peter Machethe as best cultural affairs presenter, Sylvester Ramolefo as best religious programme presenter and Walter Mashao as best entertainment programme presenter.,

Tumelo Malaka was best musical programme presenter, Lassy Mojela best talk show presenter, Selaelo Raphahlelo, who is also a station manager, was best producer.

Mokgadi Mamaropene Mashala was best radio listener, and Sylvester Ramolefo received the second award as overall best presenter.

According to the spokesman for the organisers of the event, Tumelo Malaka, they had decided to award presenters in order to boost their morale.

He said through their efforts the station had grown from strength to strength and was now the mouthpiece that relayed messages from the government to the community and vice versa.

Malaka said the awards were sponsored by Maeteko Group Holding and they intended to make them an annual event.

Head of the department of public works in the province, Madidimalo Chaamano, applauded the DJs at the station for making the station one of the best community radio stations in the province.

Chaamano was one of the founding members of the station and was a member of the board for 10 years.

"We are proud of the success of the station and we would like to see it growing and improving more than it already has," he said.
