New gospel show on TV

IT SEEMS Soweto Community Television is growing faster than had been anticipated.

A year ago the community-based station looked like one of those far-fetched ideas that would never work. Surprisingly, it has survived to give various young productions houses a platform.

The channel, which is also available on DStv channel 150, has been launching new shows recently.

It will officially launch a new gospel programme, ApoZion Top Ten , on Saturday from 8am to 9am.

The show gives neglected genres such as apostle and Zion music a chance to shine. The official launch will take place on Saturday November 20 at the Regina Mundi Church, Soweto.

Reverend Franz Dhlamini says the aim of the show is to promote and upgrade the standard of these genres.

"Since Soweto TV gave Zion groups a platform on Saturdays and Sundays there has been a lot of improvement," he says.

"People are now aware of these genres."

Dhlamini points out that he was motivated to come up with the show when he realised these two genres were neglected.

"The aim of the show is to give unsigned groups in both genres a chance to show what they can do."

Groups such as Barorisi Bamorena, Majalefa a Morena, Jerusalema Entsha, Holly Saints, Praise God Ministries, Enyonini Mission and Umthombo Ka Joshua will be entertaining on Saturday.

"We have tried by to balance the equation by showcasing the legends, upcoming and newly formed groups on one stage and receiving the same performance fees," Dhlamini says.

The show starts at 9am and continue until 7.30pm. Tickets at Computicket and Money Market kiosks for R50.
