Why stars twinkle

A STAR is an enormous ball of hot, glowing gases that whirls around space.

The sun is the only star close enough for us to see its ball shape. There are many more stars in our universe that are much larger than the sun, even 1000 times bigger.

All stars are made up of hydrogen and helium. They shine because the atomic energy at their centres make them very hot.

A planet is a smaller, solid body. It shines because of the light reflected from the sun.
