Chris Brown commended for progress on probation

Brown has completed 581 hours so far of community service - and now has only seven more sessions of domestic violence counselling left

R&B singer Chris Brown has been praised for a "commendable" job in complying with court-ordered domestic violence classes and community service imposed for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Los Angeles Superior Court judge Patricia Schnegg told Brown at a hearing that of the thousands of people who come before her on probation "no one has done a better or more consistent job than you have, and I really want to commend you for taking responsibility and for actually working diligently to complete all the things the court has required of you".

Schnegg said Brown had just seven more sessions of domestic violence counselling to complete.

She added that his 581 hours so far of community service was "very commendable".

Brown pleaded guilty last year to attacking Rihanna during an argument after a music industry party in February 2009. He was sentenced to five years probation, a year-long domestic violence program and 180 days of community labour.

The singer of hits like "Run It!" and Kiss Kiss" has since apologized to his fans. Brown and Rihanna split up after the incident.
