Fun-filled stokvel back to delight

MULTI-AWARD winning television sitcom Stokvel is back this month, and this time around it brings back multi-award winning theatre director and actor James Ngcobo in two roles - as the lead actor, Mojo Khumalo, and director.

The sitcom returns to SABC2 screens for a seventh season of 26 episodes, with the first episode showing on October 17 at 7.30pm.

Stokvel is a comedy series set in the vibrant and exciting world of stokvels. The stokvel has been a part of African culture for decades - a place where friends meet for companionship, good times and a social way of saving money. This much-loved institution is the backdrop for the activities of two stokvels in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The show has received several awards, most recently in 2010 for the best comedy director, best comedy ensemble cast and best comedy actor for Tshamano Sebe who plays Biza - the third time he won it.

Stokvel has won seven Safta awards in the best comedy category.

Khumalo's beautiful wife, Lerata, is played by Manaka Ranaka. Other actors are Dieketseng Mnisi, Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Andrea Dondolo, Lele Ledwba, Sebe, Ntobeko Rwanqa and Sello Sebotsane.
