Judith in all her glory

Judith Sephuma reveals how she has acquired her new trim figure - A fusion of working with a personal trainer at the gym and eating healthy meals

INSTEAD of coming from backstage as is the norm, she strolls through the audience entrance, mic in hand, and the canary-like voice holds the audience made of captains of the industry spellbound.

In case you are wondering, it was not only Judith Sephuma's voice that electrified music lovers. It was also her trim figure outlined by the brown suit with its short skirt and a cream top that peeped strategically from her well-shaped breasts.

This was during her recent performance at the Oude Meester Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Evening at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

Personally I had not seen the star for a long time. The last time I laid my eyes on her she was still well-rounded - and the transformation is mind-blowing. The hairstyle and impeccable make-up added to the sultry look that succeeded in grabbing the attention of everyone in the room.

Catching up with the vision she has become, I beg the singer to give me the low-down.

"I must say I like what I see every time I look in the mirror, but I am not going to fib and say it's easy," she says.

"It's hard work.

"The last time I stayed away from the gym for two months, I put on four kilos just like that.

"So my life revolves around going to the gym and being careful about what I eat," the lady with the golden voice says.

She reveals that she has even gone to the extent of getting a personal trainer.

"Whenever I travel, I make sure that I have my training kit so that I don't lose a single day. If it's not one of those hotels, then I run and make sure that I stay away from tempting food."

The gym story started when Sephuma looked at the mirror and saw how huge she looked.

"I spoke to the dietician, but because I was not doing anything, she said all the load I was carrying was not going anywhere.

"I learnt then about the fusion of a healthy lifestyle, running and training.

"It's a lifestyle, a battle we are not allowed to give up on," she says, adding that she has even dropped starch.

"I am weak but it's not supposed to be easy. It's about setting goals every month and making sure you meet them."

Her fans will feast their eyes on Sephuma when she performs at the Jazz by the River at Dick Fourie Stadium in Vereeniging this Saturday from noon until late.

"I will be at the Jazz by the River in all my glory with my band.

"I know we will be playing alongside Lira, Wanda Baloyi, Kunle Ayo, Hugh Masekela, Nhlanhla Ncinza, Phuthuma and Nombulelo, as well as development jazz band like Upbeat, Bow & Arrow, Life Rhythm and Triangle."

The Limpopo gem says she loves the vibe at the Jazz by the River. She says whenever she has performed there, the audience has been simply incredible.

"My repertoire will go through all three of my albums: A Cry, A Smile And A Dance, New Beginnings and Changes. As to the covers, we'll go with the flow, checking what songs the crowd want and do them because ours is to please the fans," she says.

Tickets cost R160 at Computicket while VIP tickets will set you back R1000.
