Blatter has many lives

WHITHER the Federation of International Football Associations?

Events of the past week within the football fraternity have shown that power does really corrupt and absolute power corrupts one absolutely.

Whether the game will ever recover from the alleged corruption scandals that have rocked the world football controlling body remains to be seen.

It may seem like a case of sour grapes from the English media, which has been vigorous in it's pursuit of what it views as reasons behind why their country lost out on hosting either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup finals.

That may be so.

But, if we were to be reminded how we lost out on the 2006 event through the abstention of one Charles Dempsey, it is clear that where there is smoke there is fire.

Fifa has always been intolerant to criticism and what it sees as interference in it's affairs. They are also above governments.

For anyone who has ever read Andrew Jennings's book, FOUL, then the recent revelations are not a surprise.

Sepp Blatter even banned him from Fifa-sanctioned events and tried to suppress the publication of the book.

Blatter has been able to live to fight another day.

He did not only manage to survive, he did so overwhelmingly.

Can the same be said about Issa Hayatou, the president of the Confederation of African Football president?

If the Fifa outcome is anything to go by, then we have every reason to be afraid. Very afraid.
