SA business run by corrupt, greedy people

OUR government is constantly pandering to white South African business. We are busy "opening up" Africa through our foreign service but always with whites on tow or blacks who are fronting for whites.

This appears to be intensifying under the new regime, proving that we have a government with absolutely no faith in the majority of its citizens when it comes to business.

How long do you think it will take before the rest of Africa realises that in business we are just a colonial front? Why is our government so enamoured with whites in business? In my experience there is very little reason for this.

I took my 1972 Mercedes to a vintage Mercedes Benz specialist. He charged me over R12000 for a major service. Two weeks later the engine blew up because the radiator was leaking. After paying over R40000 to fix the engine, I ask: How much of your work can I trust and for how long?

He tells me he cannot predict when a radiator will leak so it has nothing to do with him that my engine blew up.

My female landlord asks: "Why did he not do a radiator pressure test as part of the major service?" She knows this. He doesn't.

I joined a white advertising agency that had managed to reach only R8million in annual turnover in eight years.

When I left it as managing director two years later it was turning over R32million a year and on the verge of signing a further R20million deal that I had set up.

I generated 5,5 times more money than the whites who ran it before in a quarter of the time.

I use a wellknown travel agency to book my flights. In addition to numerous local trips, I have been overseas at least three times in the last year alone. I'm a good client who trusts the agent who often serves me there.

On this one occasion he books me a ticket for Cape Town.

When I get to the airport I learn that my booking is for the following week. It costs me over R700 to change this.

When I ask the agent what went wrong, he says I signed on the dotted line and therefore it's my fault that the dates were wrong.

I send a parcel worth R4000 from America using an international courier service with branches in South Africa. Somebody in the South African office mistakes the R4000 for $4000 and attempts to charge me over R3600 for the package delivery.

It takes over a month for the error to be rectified and for me to get the parcel. These are the little things. I won't talk about our banks and how they overcharge us for everything, our horribly high cellphone costs and the bread cartels.

White South African business is generally incompetent and largely run by corrupt, greedy and shameless people who have been getting away with substandard practices and the exploitation of people since before apartheid was born. And yet our government continues to refuse to bring blacks into it to generate new thinking. Why?
