SA entrepreneurs eye Mozambique trade opportunities

A group of South African business people will this weekend depart for Mozambique to showcase their products and services at a trade fair.

The delegation of 25 from five of the country’s provinces will leave on Sunday for the 52nd Maputo International Trade Fair‚ commonly known as Facim which is taking place in the Mozambican capital from Monday to September 4.

Facim is an international multi-sectoral trade fair held annually to showcase Mozambique as an attractive destination for trade and investment.

The participation of the South African companies in the exhibition has been made possible by the Department of Trade and industry through its Export Marketing and Investment Assistance (Emia) scheme with the aim of increasing exports of South African manufactured products to Mozambique‚ the department said.

One of the beneficiaries of the scheme‚ Mbombela-based Mpumalanga Makgethwa Mashiane‚ was confident she would find a market for her personal care products in Mozambique.

Mashiane’s company‚ Magetz Guest Amenities‚ manufactures a range of personal care products including body lotion‚ bath salts‚ shower gel‚ bubble bath‚ tissue oil and body butter.

“When I was there last year‚ I realised that the Mozambican hospitality industry was growing at a fast pace. We are confident that we will use our participation in Facim to make contact with various hotels and companies with the aim of getting them on board to be our clients so that we can supply them with our products‚” said Mashiane.

Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said the goal was to grow the SA manufacturing sector in order to promote industrial development‚ job creation‚ investment and exports.

“In order to achieve this objective‚ the department embarks on international missions and participate in targeted international trade exhibitions in order to promote exports of South African value-added goods and services to increase market share in markets in various regions of the world.

“This will enable South African businesses to access global markets which will lead to them increasing their production‚ thereby growing the SA economy and creating employment‚” Davies said. — TMG Digital
