There are no charges espionage against Pravin Gordhan: NPA

There no charges of espionage against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, this is according to the National Director of Public Prosecution (NDPP) Shaun Abrahams.

This comes after reports of plans to arrest Gordhan over his alleged involvement in an alleged “rogue unit” at the South African Revenue Service (Sars) surfaced.

Abrahams said that the NPA is not investigating Gordhan.

"I further wish to make the following emphatically clear, there are no charges of espionage being investigated against Minister Gordhan. There are no charges of espionage being investigated against any other person associated with what the media has the so-called Sars Rogue Unit," he said.

He said that in the event that Gordhan is found implicated, he will personally make the decision to either prosecute him or not.
