Multimillion-rand deal to create jobs in Limpopo

A MULTIMILLION-RAND deal has been concluded between well-known franchise Matrix Warehouse Computers (MWC) and the Limpopo Chamber of Commerce (LCC) to create job opportunities.

The R50-million deal will also see rural communities gain internet access.

It will entail the establishment of at least 100 outlets of Matrix Warehouse Mobile Container Franchises in the province.

LCC president Joseph Mashita said yesterday they were excited about the initiative.

"This initiative will revive rural and township entrepreneurial spirit and culture and thus create business opportunities for many entrepreneurs including unemployed people, the youth, women and people with disabilities."

He said MWC came with a wealth of experience, credibility, support mechanism and resources needed to sustain the franchises.

According to Mashita, the first batch of 30 franchise outlets would be opened within each of the five districts of Limpopo by the end of March this year.

He added that some of the provincial business development agencies had already shown interest and further expressed funding intentions to support qualifying entrepreneurs.

Mashita identified the agencies as the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, National Empowerment Fund and the Small Enterprise Finance Agency.

Deon de Wet, group general manager at MWC, said there were lots of people within communities in the province who were still spending a lot of money to travel to their respective towns "just to access services such as internet, faxing and printing".

"We are hopeful that this franchise model will provide local communities with affordable access to technological support and infrastructure in their own backyard," De Wet said.

"And this will directly impact on the lives of ordinary people positively."

He further advised local entrepreneurs to show interest "because there will be services and products outsourcing, and procurement opportunities such as container and shop fittings and installation, networking, maintenance and supply of goods made available for members of the LCC and other locally-based SMMEs".
