The app that helps you fake a relationship

Tired of being set up on blind dates or being asked when you are getting married? There’s a new app to help you.

The Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend apps created by an American based company were designed to help single people to get out of those awkward situations with nosy people.

The app sends convincing text messages and even voicemails from a virtual partner as 'proof' of a relationship.

The founders believe that the app will also help single people to practice flirting for when they are ready to start dating.

‘Invisible Boyfriend gives you real-world and social proof that you’re in a relationship - even if you’re not - so you can get back to living life on your own terms,’ the website says.

Currently available as a private beta version in the US and Canada users are able to download a gender-specific app and start receiving messages from a fictional partner, for around $25 (R290) a month.

The monthly subscription includes 100 text messages, 10 voicemails and a handwritten letter.
