Where are they? Ba kae, waar is huller, vhagai?

Where are they those that lost themselves to save the crowd? The heroes that pioneered  in their will to serve humanity…bo Hector Peterson, a legend who was my age, yet choose to fight for the right type of education, and went as far as losing his life.  Today, I am enjoying this lucrative right to education because of his tenacity.

Uh Mama, our Mother Theresa – who never bound herself to having one child to take care of and use that as her pride and joy as many parents do in this day and age. No! She chose to be the Mother, to the motherless…Mama always used to say “Be faithful in small things, because it is within them, your strength lies”. I believe there has never been a time in society where this quote was more relevant than now! Because if we can be faithful in the small things, those things will grow and become immense acts of love and grace, and it is through these immense acts of love and grace that distinguish the modern human race from Neanderthal man.

Our Father Mhatma Gandhi, who against discrimination, teaching us to be the change we want to see in the world. Yet we seem to have forgotten that the change starts with us…

Our Brother Steve Biko who was bruised for our freedom, denied medical attention because he spoke out against the oppressor, not only for himself but for every single one of us, today we are proud to say we are South Africa citizens because of him.

The Great Gentleman Sir Nico Smith who made a lasting differenct on my community when he opened up Tshilidzini Special School which caters for all children who have special needs.

Where are those that deserve to be called legends and not simply because they scored a goal but because they selflessly changed the world for the greater good? These people have passed on yet their legacies live forever.

Today we live in a society that is flooded with greed and hidden intentions, where people stand up and make empty promises in pursuit of YOUR vote yet still have the audacity to steal from YOU – the very same people who they made promises to.

Wheare people believe in mottoes like “YOLO” – you only live once, forgetting that after you pass on, a new generation will emerge and have to pay for your mistakes.

Where the best services are only rendered to the rich and elite, because everyone is serving society so they too may become rich. Where parents teach their children from a young age, you need to choose a job which will pay you the optimum amount of money, forgetting the words of Danny Thomas: “Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.”

Ladies and gentlemen, we need to rise, rise beyond our self inhibitions in the spirit of Ubuntu and be the change. This dying world awaits you to wake up and change it for the greater good of mankind.

Take a moment and think about what you’ve done with your life to help humanity? Are you going to be part of the head count or are you going to make your life count? Make a difference, do something meaningful that will immortalise you in the hearts of many.

The creator has created us in a unique way so that we may form the puzzle pieces and complete the bigger picture which is beyong you and I…If you play your part in changing the world, and I play mine, soon we will effect change in the world and thus alleviate poverty, abuse, rape, discrimination, conflicts and wars.

My name is Mpho Dagada, future president of the Republic of South Africa. What will you become?

Where are they? They all lie in each and every one of us…we just need to reach in and let them out…
