400 health workers struck off the roll

ABOUT 400 members of the Health Professions Council of SA who held fraudulent certificates have been de-registered in Limpopo.

Professional Board of Emergency Care chairperson Raveen Naidoo said yesterday: "We cannot allow these people to put the lives of the patients at risk by treating them without quality emergency care."

Naidoo was speaking during a media briefing held by the Health Professions Council in Arcadia, Pretoria.

He said an additional 1000 members would be stripped of their titles and removed from the council in other provinces later this month.

The de-registering of members came in the wake of an in-depth investigation by the board in conjunction with the Hawks.

It was prompted by the low quality of training and education provided by the Limpopo Ambulance Training Academy.
