Believe in yourself and you will succeed

I have come to appreciate over time that there is a science to success. From personal experience and having studied successful people, I know that there are a number of definitive steps that, if applied consistently, can make the likelihood of success far greater.

All great accomplishments were preceded by an unwavering belief that the goal was possible. On a scale of one to ten, how much do you truly believe that you will able to achieve your ambitions or live your dreams?

Positive belief in your ability can propel you towards your goals.

Self-belief reflects your own opinion of yourself and has very little to do with what others think of you. Whenever you experience doubt in your ability or fear that your dreams might never come to pass, remember that many others faced similar or even worse situations, went through hardships and eventually triumphed. What makes you less capable?

The fact that you had a goal, an objective, implies that somewhere inside you is a seed of corresponding greatness that has within it the innate potential required to achieve that goal.

Act daily. That will make you a better person today than yesterday. If you want a successful career, ask yourself: "What action can I take daily that will eventually put me in the top 20 or 30% of my industry?

What actions can I take today that will render me truly valuable to my company? This way you set yourself on a path to daily improvement and, eventually, that "elusive bonus" will become a reality. Positive belief and productive action are powerful ingredients for realising any goal.

Modelling essentially involves identifying three or four icons and isolating the success qualities that made them great. Read their biographies and life stories, learn about their struggles and triumphs and learn what they did to become successful.

Then replicate these in your life until it becomes second nature. When faced with a challenge, ask yourself what your icons would do or how they would react. Behave accordingly.

We often carry past failures, amplifying them and allowing them to determine what we believe is our potential. We diminish the impact of past successes and underestimate the crucial role we played in the achievement of our unique and hard-earned successes. Not letting go of the past is a major obstruction to move forward. Learning from mistakes and moving forward is the key to success.
