MBAs for US contest

THE Milpark Business School MBA team will be hoisting the flag for Africa in the Global Social Venture finals in the US next month.

The team trounced 19 international competitors in the Global Social Venture Competition Asia-Africa held at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India, last week.

The contest is a global initiative aimed at promoting businesses that have recognisable and measurable social impact or benefits, are financially sustainable, profitable and self-sufficient.

The competition drew applications from countries including India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, Singapore, Taiwan and China.

The Gordon Institute of Business Science was the only other SA business school to enter the competition.

Dr Cobus Oosthuizen, director of the management and leadership faculty at Milpark Business School, believes MBA graduates should be agents of change in their companies.

"This programme allowed us to grow in an environment that gave us the space to experiment and experience a platform that supports innovation," said Muhammed Patel, a graduate of the MBA programme and senior strategist of the FNB mobile division.
