One of SA's famous athletics twins Lebo Phalula has a strong feeling that it's a matter of time before she gets back to her best after returning from maternity hiatus recently.

Phalula, who is married to fellow long-distance runner Gladwin Mzazi, gave birth to a baby girl in June and spent only two months on the sidelines before hitting the road again.

Since her return, the 33-year-old twin has participated in two races - the Spar 10km in Pretoria in August and last week's FNB Durban 10km City Surf Run, where she finished 12th.

Phalula feels she's a step closer to getting back to her old self, saying that the two races she ran recently were all about losing weight and gaining full fitness.

"At this moment I am not focussing on winning anything but using these races to lose weight and get back to my best.

"It's a matter of time before I return to where I was before [pregnancy]. I have been working hard to regain full fitness."

The 2016 Rio Olympian's sense of motherhood was evident as she travelled all the way from Gauteng to Durban with her four-month-old infant for the 10km race last Sunday.

"Being a mother is an unexplainable feeling. My baby is a motivation for me to work even harder. It is not difficult to juggle motherhood and running."
