We must control the game better - Mokotjo

Bafana Bafana players are unanimous in their views that they were simply not good enough in the 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde in a 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier last week.

Bafana have to redeem themselves in tonight's return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban (7pm).

The team's midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo, who replaced Bongani Zungu in Praia and stabilised things, was not in two minds over what the nation can expect tonight, chatting to Sowetan ahead of the match.

"I don't want to comment too much on my own game, but what I think about us as a whole," Mokotjo kicked off. "I feel we did not do enough to win the game. We were not composed enough from the beginning to win the game.

"We were composed later on in the game and it's important to be composed when you play such opponents, because they like the rush of things, and because we have more quality, we should be able to control these games better. So I think that will be the main difference," he said.

With Bafana playing in their own backyard, the expectations may weigh heavily on their shoulders. The squad, however, are ready to deliver, if Mokotjo's word is anything to go by.

"Yeah, a lot is expected," said Mokotjo.

"We always love playing in front of our home crowd, but you know that's the pressure of the game and we enjoy it. I mean, we've had fantastic results playing in Durban. We always enjoy great support," affirmed the 26-year-old.

"The other two teams (in Group D) Burkina Faso and Senegal drew, so there's hope. We have a chance to again make things right, to get back to our normal selves."

It was still not clear yesterday whether Mokotjo would start this time, but head coach Stuart Baxter could be seen trying different central midfield combinations.

Baxter is expected to reveal his team today.
