Celtic evict 'dishonest' Mhango

An irate Bloemfontein Celtic boss, Max Tshabalala, has kicked Gabadinho Mhango out of the club's residence after the Malawian striker signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits.

Tshabalala, who owns the townhouse where the player had been staying, confirmed this yesterday, saying Mhango would receive the remainder of what's left of the contract that is due to expire at the end of June.

Mhango was free to talk to any club with six months left on his contract, but Tshabalala said the Malawian was not honest with the Celtic management after they tried to negotiate a better deal and living arrangements for the player.

"He must go. We don't mind a player leaving us because he has the right to go play for any club, but he must be honest.

"We started negotiating with him a year ago. There was a time when he was injured and we stalled on the negotiations because we wanted him to recover," Tshabalala said.

"But I said if we paid R150000 for two operations during his injury, then why shouldn't we negotiate with him?

"But he dilly-dallied. His contract was going to be improved and we had put him in a three-bedroom house after he was living in a flat.

"I have 23 townhouses for our players and we have them so that we can encourage players to live the family life with their wives and children.

"So we told him he must leave and we will pay him for the rest of his contract."

Mhango confirmed that he was told to leave the townhouse, but asked for some time to pack up all his things.

"They phoned me and told me to move from the house.

"I asked when I should leave because I need to pack my stuff. I will find a place to stay," said Mhango.

"Celtic did try to negotiate a deal with me, but there were some issues between me and them and I cannot discuss them.

"I am happy to have signed with Wits and I hope I can win trophies there."

Mhango cannot be registered by Wits this month because they have already filled up their foreign quota.
