Red-carpet ready

SO off Shwashwi ran to the Mbokodo Awards at Theatre on the Track in Kyalami.

Manning the red carpet was former Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane, wearing a stunning Pallu dress that her statuesque figure did justice to. Shwa would love for Pallu to start sponsoring Lira, too, so that she can put on something different to her earth-toned dresses. It was nice to see her and hubby Robin Kohl out and about. Hope they had their house locked up tight.

And then there's actress Manaka Ranaka, who rocked up in jeans and wedges and had her glass of red wine with her all the time. You practically had to remove it with surgery. But Shwa loves that.

There was quite a number of actors and actresses there, some relevant and others, well, scrambling for relevancy, like Lucia Mthiyane. "I'm busy with cooking and I'm turning down roles. I don't have time for TV."

In other words, she's between jobs.

Sello Maake ka Ncube rocked up with two generations of women draped on is arms. Shwa gave him a mental high five. Wink!

Zone 14 actress Khanya Mkangisa looked cute in an embellished black chiffon dress. However, a note to the designer: taking measurements is key.

"I don't know who dressed me. They (Carol Bouwer Productions) did, but they should have tightened the dress," she volunteered about the too-big dress.

And give it glue, girl. Embellishments are meant to stick to the garment and not have their own red carpet moment.

Our hosts, Dineo Moeketsi and Thabo Mokwele, were great.

Her many wardrobe changes inevitably led to a malfunction that could have been fixed by safety pins. Thank me later.

Anyway when the show did get under way, Botlhale Boikanyo recited a beautiful poem that got a standing ovation.

The whole night was about standing ovations. From the performances by Abigail Kubeka and Gloria Bosman to Idols' Tshidi Tenyane.

The moment of the evening had to be Mara Louw bringing along a Ben 10 to help her on stage.

A good evening all in all, food was like attending a traditional ceremony back home, except the spirits were a cash bar process. Wow!
