King Monada's blockbuster song Malwedhe has received a major boost from the organiser of the SABC Summer Song of Year Award, Owen Ndlovu.

Ndlovu has rooted for Monada's stellar cut to win this year's competition.

And for those who are planning to cross over into the New Year while enjoying a live performance from this hugely popular Tzaneen, Limpopo-based artist, we have bad news for you. 

Monada's manager Albert Makwela has made it clear that the Khelobedu music king's diary has been cleared on December 31 and January 1, to let "everybody rest with their families".

Makwela said the artist was booked for every day of December with performances in different parts of the country.

"We have also been getting a lot of enquiries from many African countries and one in the UK. We are looking at ways to take some of those without upsetting our local fans. You don't want a situation where local fans start thinking you are now undermining them yet they are the ones who made the song successful in the first place," he said.

About the SABC Song of the Year, Makwela said fans have already decided. "What's left is just processes."

Speaking to Sunday World yesterday, Ndlovu said King Monada's ditty, which has taken the music industry by storm and broke the internet, would win the competition as there appears to be no tune that matches its popularity and appeal.

"This is my personal opinion. I'm not speaking as the organiser of the competition. Truth be told, I believe that Monada's song appears to be the best song and the favourite to win the competition. Yes, we have Vusi Nova's song As'phelelanga which is very good but King Monada's one is something else," said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu said Malwedhe would only be able to compete in the annual competition if it was voted in the top 10 of any of the SABC's radio stations.

"In the previous years, we have been asking the public to vote for the top 10 songs for all the radio stations. This year we have given the radio stations the freedom to select their own top 10 songs," he said.

Ndlovu said the voting process will start on November 15 and all radio stations are expected to have completed their top 10 songs by the cut-off date.

He said voting will end on December 30 and the counting will start on December 31.

"The winner of the Summer Song of the Year Award will be announced on the New Year's Eve bash billed for Sasolburg in the Vaal. The winner will walk away with R150000 and a car and those who win the number one spot on the top 10 songs selected by the radio station will take home R10000 each," he said.
