Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro Andile Jali allegedly choked his wife Nonhle Ndala after accusing her of not sleeping at home in a domestic violence squabble at their home in Pretoria last weekend.

This after Ndala also accused Jali of not sleeping at home.

Ndala's statement, which Sunday World has seen, describes details how an enraged Jali threatened to kill her during a fight allegedly witnessed by their estate's security guard.

Jali also made titbits about Ndala in an affidavit he deposed at the Boschkop police station in Pretoria east when he opened a case of common assault against his wife.

Both Jali and Mamelodi Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa couldn't be reached for comment at the time of going to press.

NPA South Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane couldn't confirm or deny the allegations made by Jali in the docket.

"All we can say is that a case of intimidation was enrolled against Andile Jali. Merits of the case can only be ventilated in court where interested parties like the media can attend proceedings and learn what led to the altercation," she said.

Boschkop police spokesperson Yeroboam Mbatsane confirmed Jali had opened a case of assault against Ndala, but said they couldn't arrest her because of discrepancies in his statement. "We have referred the matter to the NPA for a decision on whether to prosecute," he said.

But a source who has seen the docket said Jali alleged Ndala accused him of not sleeping at home. "She asked him why he was not sleeping at home. But he asked her where she got the audacity to ask him that as the main cause of their fight was that she was the one who has not been sleeping at home," said the deep throat.

The tipster alleged that a fierce argument erupted between the two and Ndala slapped him in the face.

Jali then opened a case of common assault against Ndala. In her statement Ndala alleged that she was sleeping when Jali knocked on the door of her bedroom in the wee hours of the morning.

She said she walked out of the bedroom when Jali banged on the door as she refused to open.

"She opened the door and took the pillow, blanket and car keys and went to her vehicle. She found that her husband parked his vehicle behind her vehicle," reads the statement.

The statement alleged Ndala locked the doors of her vehicle and was sleeping when Jali came with a sharp instrument and slashed its tyres.

"She went out and run(sic) to the security to get help ... then she contacted the police and her friend.

While she was there, her husband came to the security and he then started shouting at her and she went outside the security control room and he strangled her... she screamed and then runaway (sic). The security guard known as Mokoena stopped him as he was shouting at her saying he will kill her if he found her at their house," reads the statement.

Ndala could also not be reached for comment.
