Seasoned SABC news anchor Peter Ndoro, pictured, has been yanked off air after another embarrassing on-air blooper in which he said President Cyril Ramaphosa had died.

Ndoro's suspension followed a complaint to head of TV news Nothando Maseko by Advocate Sam Moufhe in which he demanded the public broadcaster take action against Ndoro.

This was Ndoro's second faux pas in as many weeks after he "killed off" IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi during an interview with him last month.

Ndoro was interviewing Buthelezi after the death of former Bophuthatswana prime minister Lucas Mangope.

In his complaint, seen by Sunday World, Moufhe said: "It is my considered view that the SABC newsreader, Mr Ndoro, should be rested at least as a newsreader. His on-air misreading of the news lately should essentially concern his bosses at the SABC.

"Yesterday [Thursday] he read something which couldn't have been written in the script. He said '... Thank you very much indeed Mbali Sibanyoni getting the first comment from former president Thabo Mbeki about events taking place not just here in SA, but in Zimbabwe as well, about the passing of Cyril Ramaphosa'."

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed Ndoro had been iced for "killing off" Ramaphosa.

"In this bulletin, Mr Peter Ndoro rendered a news item to announce the death of the leader of Zimbabwe's Movement for Democratic Change, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai. Mr Ndoro erroneously announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa has passed away instead of announcing the name of Mr Tsvangirai.

"We take this matter in a very serious light as it could potentially affect those involved negatively.

"In the light of the event, news management has since engaged Mr Ndoro and he indicated that he is fatigued and needed some time to rest. Management has agreed to his request and he will be taking a break from the show."

Kganyago said Ndoro had also apologised to the presidency for his flop.
