Actor and writer Eric Miyeni's film-making business has hit a stumbling block after some of his equipment was stolen.

Among others, he lost a camera worth R5000 and suspects an embittered former employee is responsible for the theft.

Miyeni has since opened a case of theft at the Rosebank police station against the man.

According to the police statement, Miyeni alleges that an employee who resigned earlier this year apparently stole the camera because he was the last person to use it.

He told police that he had called him, requesting him to bring it back, but that the suspect denied knowledge of the camera's whereabouts.

Police spokesman Captain Richard Munyai confirmed that the case had been opened.

He said although the suspect is known he has not been arrested. He said police were still looking for him.

"The suspect was apparently working for the complainant, he resigned in April and allegedly left with the camera," Munyai said.

He said the suspect initially agreed to look for the camera at his home but never brought it back. He later said he knew nothing about it.
