KENNY Lattimore might as well move to South Africa.

The American R&B legend confirmed that he was in talks with trendsetting artist Lira for a collaboration, and that he has produced a song with house musician Donald.

Lattimore revealed this during an interview with Sunday World, ahead of his tour of South Africa next month.

"I have been in talks with Lira's management about doing a project with her in the near future. I just did a song with Donald called Spirit, which features on his new album. I also did a remix of a song which will be featured on a future project called Beautiful Nowheres," he said.

Lattimore, who has been performing in the country since the 1990s, said he considered South Africa "home away from home", and that it was one of his favourite places in the world.

"What stands out to me about my South African fans is that the meaning of my lyrics really moves them. They absorb every message being sung to them and they walk away transformed," he said.

Although his music is about love, the 44-year-old crooner subtly ignored questions about his love life.

"I'm currently in love with life, and all it has to offer. In my younger years, I was under so much pressure to be this or that. I have learnt to stop putting conditions on myself," he said.

Lattimore was married to award-winning singer Chanté Moore from 2002 to 2011. The two released two duet albums, including Things That Lovers Do and Uncovered / Covered. They have a son together.

On lessons he's learnt about love, he said it was work and a constant denying of self.

"In today's relationships, we never allow the other person to grow into themselves and the relationship. Love is about giving with a clean heart and mind."

Lattimore's fans can expect an intimate show during his Bassline performance in Joburg on Friday and Saturday

His new album, Back to Cool, will be released in February.

Also heading to our shores in September for the I Heart Joburg music festival is Jessie J, Jason Derulo Panic! At The Disco, B.o.B, T-Pain and Fall Out Boy.
