At young age, Ishmael Morabe had to face the harsh conditions of being homeless.

A kind hand and thoughtful look saved him, when he met the people who would make him a star.

Now the iKwaito star, Ishmael is spearheading the Keep Me Warm SA initiative by handing out blankets to the homeless.

Morabe, who was accompanied by his friends and Pastor Mboro also made a surprise visit in support of the initiative.

Ishmael handed over 200 blankets to the homeless in an effort to keep those in the streets warm this winter.

Morabe was inspired by his own experience of being homeless and a blanket was just a luxury he could not afford.

Among those who benefited was a 79-year-old street dweller, who has been homeless for more than 20 years.

The Avulekile Amasango hit maker, was overwhelmed when he found a long queue of people waiting to receive blankets in the middle of the night along the Vodacom Tower Bridge in Hillbrow.

“We’re so accustomed to not paying attention to the homeless, when we see them in the streets. But, it’s important for people to be looking out for other people, especially the needy. We can prevent one person from freezing to death out there,” he said.
