Gareth Cliff leaves 5fm

Popular radio DJ Gareth Cliff is leaving 5fm after 10 years, the radio station announced this morning.

The sometimes controversial breakfast show host told his listeners the news this morning before announcing that today was his last show.

“Last show on 5FM today. Let's get unhinged. Come with me,” he also posted on his Twitter page.

5FM’s programming manager Tim Zunckel had this to say: “5FM is enormously appreciative of Gareth’s incredible work ethic, his dedication to his listeners and support of the 5FM brand. The station thanks Gareth for his exceptional ten years of on-air presence as well as being an ambassador for the station, we wish him the very best in future.”

The news of his departure caused a stir on social media, with many relaying their sadness while others paid tribute to him for the work he has done:

 “I’ve had an amazing decade at 5FM together with my “one-of-kind”  team  and I have loved every minute. The journey has been an unforgettable one but I’m excited about the future”, Cliff said in a press statement. 

His replacement is yet to be announced.

“We’re excited about the new line-up and will be announcing as to what listeners can expect in the near future”, programming manager Tim Zunckel said.
