Why was there no mention of boxer Phindile Mwelase? She has been mourned by the nation over the past week in the same manner as Meyiwa and Mulaudzi.
It is illogical and unreasonable for the government to exclude her from receiving an "official provincial" funeral yesterday.
Is it because Mwelase never got the chance to represent the country at national and international level?
Does it mean Mwelase did not generate "immense national pride and unity", as presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said when it was announced that Meyiwa and Mulaudzi would get official provincial funerals?
Mwelase was a beacon of hope for women's boxing in the country and although discouraged by her family from the sport, her love for her craft never waned - until her untimely death from injuries she sustained during a bout.
She led from the front, representing many women scared to venture into male-dominated sport.
Mwelase was at the pinnacle of her career and practised her craft with devotion and love.
She was a heroine in her own right.
