AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi has made it clear that he wants to play at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and Fifa World Cup, aiming to use Bafana Bafana's double friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique to prove to coach Hugo Broos that he can be an asset.

The 24-year-old Moremi, who hails from Sharpeville in the Vaal, had a brilliant 2024/25 campaign with Usuthu, where he managed to rack up seven assists and three goals in the league to help his club finish sixth in the Betway Premiership.

Moremi's stellar form earned him a maiden Bafana call-up, looking likely to play a key role when Broos's men host Tanzania at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday (7.30pm). Bafana will then face Mozambique in another friendly at the same venue next Tuesday.

“I'd say that I am looking forward to keeping on improving. I aim to see myself playing in the Afcon and the Fifa World Cup, so I want to score goals and rack up assists,” Moremi said.

“I can attack and I can defend, but I still have to work very hard, so I want to use these two upcoming games against Tanzania and Mozambique to showcase my capabilities.”

The Usuthu man also revealed that Broos told him that he was drafted into the squad on merit. “It's my first [Bafana] call-up. The coach [Broos] told me that I had been working hard and I deserve to be in this team, adding that I must do my best ... you will never know who's watching,” Moremi said.

Bafana aim to use these two friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique to assess new players and potentially widen the pool ahead of their last four remaining World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

Though they are still at risk of being docked three points for fielding Teboho Mokoena, who was supposed to serve a one-game ban in their 2-0 win over Lesotho in March, for accumulating two yellow cards in the previous fixtures, Bafana still top Group C of the CAF World Cup qualifiers with 13 points, five ahead of second-placed Rwanda.

Bafana next face Lesotho and Nigeria away and home in their next World Cup qualifiers in September, before wrapping up these qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda away and home respectively, the following month.
