AmaZulu ready for Chiefs revenge

Cavin Johnson's main focus was Amakhosi and there is no way he saw "nothing". After all, he's got a score to settle with them after Chiefs beat AmaZulu 3-0 in the Telkom Knockout quaterfinals last month.

AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson quipped that he had seen "nothing" after the Telkom Knockout semifinal clash between Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs at Bidvest Stadium last weekend.

Wits emerged winners to reach the final, but Johnson had not come all the way to Johannesburg to watch Wits. He's already done with the Clever Boys - at least for the first round, after guiding his Usuthu side to a 3-0 victory against them in September.

Johnson's main focus was Amakhosi and there is no way he saw "nothing". After all, he's got a score to settle with them after Chiefs beat AmaZulu 3-0 in the Telkom Knockout quaterfinals last month.

Now the two sides are meeting in the league at King Zwelithini Stadium tonight [7.30pm] and Johnson, even though he won't admit it, is relishing the opportunity to turn the tables on Chiefs.

"We've prepared well and we think we have picked the best team to play against Kaizer Chiefs," said Johnson ahead of the clash.

Asked if AmaZulu will be looking to take advantage of a wounded Chiefs side after their defeat to Wits, Johnson pointed out that both teams are blowing hot and cold, which could make for an unpredictable match.

"You could say the same about AmaZulu that we are blowing hot and cold. Chiefs are probably colder than us, because they came off a loss against Wits and we are going to King Zwelithini - a field that we are aware of.

"Our rituals have been done. The players have been rubbed [with muti], the coach has been rubbed. all those things are in place," joked Johnson.

On a serious note, the 59-year-old insisted that they were ready and would produce a better showing this time around.

"When you talk about tactics and whatever happens on the field - we've done our homework. We take nothing away from their coach [Steve Komphela], because they have prepared as well, but on the day, hopefully, the football gods are on our side," he added.
