From the frying pan to the fire - that's the story with Bidvest Wits.

The Clever Boys are through to the Telkom Knockout final after their 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs at Bidvest Stadium at the weekend. James Keene scored with a header in the first half.

Man of the match Xola Mlambo was delighted with the win, but added that Wits couldn't afford to rest on their laurels.

After beating Chiefs, the reigning PSL champions have another difficult match at home tomorrow - this time against the well rested Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat Orlando Pirates 3-1 on their last outing two weeks ago.

"We have to take every game as it comes. We are done with the Telkom Knockout [semis] and we have to focus on the game that's coming [tomorrow]," Mlambo said. "We have to respect every opponent that we are facing."

Mlambo rejected suggestions that Wits should be confident after beating Chiefs and use that against Sundowns.

"I mean, it's a different ball game. This was a cup game and the one we are going to is a league game. We must have the same approach and fighting spirit. Hopefully, Lady Luck will be on our side again.

"It's never easy playing teams like Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates. You always have to fight, grind or whatever it takes to get a win," Mlambo added.

Meanwhile, coach Gavin Hunt was just as happy with the win against Chiefs and said he hopes Wits reaching the final would set the tone for the rest of the season after their poor start. He said: "I hope this can take us the other way... on Tuesday [against Sundowns]."
