Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has implored the head honchos at the SA Football Association (Safa) to choose a blueprint for Bafana Bafana and stick to it.

The tactician was responding to the circumstances that led to Bafana's failure to qualify for the World Cup.

In classic indirect Komphela oration, he reflected on how South Africa has a penchant for quick fixes and shortcuts. "We need to create a system that respects planning, and planning comes on the back of serious thinking," Komphela said.

"We have too many meetings where we were thinking. We have had so many plans. Carlos Queiroz had a plan in 2002, and you and I are quick to say it is gathering dust at Safa. Let it gather dust, but somebody has to go there, pick up that plan and put it into action.

"You can have a hell of a great document, but it must be brought to life."

Safa abandoned their plan to qualify for the World Cup with coach Shakes Mashaba at the helm after the coach was axed midway through the qualification as a result of a fallout with the leadership (at Safa).

With Bafana Bafana leading Group D at the time, Stuart Baxter was hired to replace Mashaba. Komphela said when things go haywire, South Africans lack the conviction to follow through.

"Maybe because we do not have the courage to face pressure because when you are building something there will be a whole lot of pressure. Sometimes we abandon it because we feel the fire.

"Let us also try to highlight the importance of being patient ... with the programme we will see success."
